February 5, 2015
President Lynda Baer of Friends of Chatham today announced that Friends of Chatham is the proud recipient of the organization’s first grant which was awarded by the Duff McDuff Green Jr. Fund of The Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region. The $5000.00 grant will be used for the repair of one window at Chatham Manor as part of a larger fundraising effort to repair all of the windows on the manor house and ancillary buildings at Chatham Manor, and to help fund the compensation of the interim gardener at Chatham Manor, and thus continue the progress that began in 2014 to enhance and maintain the gardens of Chatham and which draw thousands of visitors to the historic dwelling each year.
The mission of Friends of Chatham is to support the preservation of Chatham Manor, including its various outbuildings, dependencies, and the historic ground which surrounds it, through advocacy, financial support, and increased community involvement, while promoting public awareness and appreciation of its historic legacies primarily by facilitating, sponsoring, and participating in fundraising events relating to the foregoing purposes.
