Years ago, a good friend of Founding President, Lynda Baer, won a framed print of Chatham painted by Richmond artist Joseph M. Serino. Lynda found out from Mr. Serino’s wife, Erna, that she had copies of the print and asked if Friends of Chatham would be interested in purchasing them.
Past Treasurer Scott Walker and Lynda went to Erna’s home and had lovely visit with Mrs. Serino, and learned that Mr. Serino was blind and living in a retirement home. They were able to see the many pieces of art made by Mr. Serino all through the house . They also learned that years ago the Serino’s had friends living in Fredericksburg and during one visit were taken to Chatham. Mr. Serino immediately wanted to paint it. Mrs. Serino said, “It took forever! Look at all those individual bricks!”
Mr. Serino passed away late in 2015. Subsequently, Erna and her daughter found more prints. Lynda and her good friend who owned the framed print gladly visited Mrs. Serino, once again, and Friends of Chatham is now is in possession of the remaining Joseph M. Serino prints of Chatham Manor.
